The Australian Jackaroos have taken a stranglehold on their Test Series with England, winning 5 of 6 round 3 matches. The third and final test for the opening day has been run and won under darkening skies at Broadbeach Bowls Club, with another strong showing by the Australian Jackaroos.

The Women’s teams took to the rinks with Natasha Scott facing off against England’s Katherine Rednall in a singles rubber; Bec Van Asch took her trio of Carla Krizanic and Kelsey Cottrell into battle with Natalie Chestney’s rink and Karen Murphy skipped a rink containing Kristina Krstic and Lynsey Clarke against Sian Honnor’s rink.

Scott begun her game in red hot form, taking a 5 shot lead early before Rednall reeled off a number of two-counts to lead 19-17, before the in-form Scott rallied to take out the match 21-19.

After starting strongly to lead 8-8, Van Ash’s rink dropped a four as Chestney’s rink levelled the match. However, the Aussies recovered with a 5 on the very next end to eventually skip out to a 21-11 victory.

Not to be outdone, Karen Murphy and team put on a clinical display to run out comfortable 21-8 victors after dropping the first two ends.

The Jackaroos men had the ever reliable Aron Sherriff leading the charge as the Singles combatant against Englands Jamie Chestney; in a high quality, see-sawing contest which rarely saw one player jump out to any major lead, Chestney lead Sherriff 19-14 before the Aussie stormed home, drawing to the ditch on the last end to take a 21-19 victory.

After trailing most of the match, the triples rink of Ray Pearse, Brett Wilkie and skip Scott Thulborn picked up a huge count of 6 to tie their match against Sam Tolchard’s rink at 15-15. After a see-sawing contest, a final end single secured victory for England 20-18.

A strong Australian trio of Wayne Ruediger, Barrie Lester and skip Aaron Wilson saw a tight contest broken open by the Australians, who took control from the 13th end to run our 19-9 victors.

With round 3 in the book, the Jackaroos have taken a commanding lead overall, with the combined ladder showing a commanding 26-10 lead over England (with the winner of each match receiving 2 points, and 1 for a draw).
