AUSTRALIAN representative Aron Sherriff remains the player to beat after posting his fifth win in six rounds at the World Junior Cup bowls tournament yesterday at Warilla.

Sherriff defeated Singaporean Seah Wanhin in straight sets 8-6 9-4 and is co-leader with Hong Kong's Ka Ho Lee.

Scotland's Ian McLean and New Zealander Shannon Mcilroy are just a single win off the lead, having won four of their six games.

With only four more rounds of the round-robin juniors' event remaining, the leading players can't afford to slip up.

One of the key matches of the tournament is first up this morning (9am) with McLean taking on Lee, while Sherriff takes on Korean Jay Kyon Jun.

Shellharbour-based Australian bowler Karen Murphy continues to lead section two in the World Cup Singles, after a 15-3 16-2 win yesterday over Emma Sageo from Papua New Guinea.

Murphy beat dual world champion Val Smith (New Zealand) on Wednesday, with Smith also beaten yesterday by Guernsey's Ali Merrien 8-5 8-4.

Wollongong RSL's Shaun Parnis, representing Malta, continued his unbeaten run in the men's division of the World Cup Singles yesterday with two hard-fought wins.

Parnis dropped the opening set of his morning match against Israeli Zvika Hadar 4-9, but won the second set 7-5 and took the tie-breaker 3-2. In his afternoon match against Kiwi Ali Forsyth, Parnis also dropped the first set 6-7, won the second set 9-8 and took the tiebreaker 3-1.

World outdoor bowls singles champion Safuan Said of Malaysia had a mixed day yesterday. Said beat Japan's Shinko Nakamura 11-7, 14-4 but then lost to Norfolk Island's Phil Jones 10-7, 11-6.
