Surfboat Crews To Resume Rivalry

BULLI Gold will be hunting arch-rivals Austinmer Blue when the Warilla Bowls Surf Boat Series resumes with today's third round at Port Kembla.
Austinmer have set the pace in the open men's division in the first two rounds, but race officials are expecting the tenacious Bulli crew to throw down the challenge to the series favourites.Corrimal, Moruya and Wollongong City crews are also tipped to fire."We're approaching the business end of the season now," series co-ordinator John Masters said."We've had 82 crews nominate for this round and the competition is sure to be of a high quality now the festive season is over."The open women's section is up for grabs as usual, with Corrimal, Moruya, Austinmer Blue, Woonona and Austinmer White all capable of winning.The reserve men should be a battle between Batemans Bay, Moruya, Bulli Gold and Austinmer White, while Austinmer Blue are favourites to win their third straight round in the under 23 men.Warilla-Barrack Point, Austinmer White and Helensburgh-Stanwell Park are the leading contenders in the under 23 women, with Broulee the most likely crew to spring an upset.Bulli Gold is the crew to beat in the under 19 men, with the main threats expected to be Batemans Bay, Warilla Barrack Point and Port Kembla.The veterans division will be battled out by second-round winners Helensburgh-Stanwell Park, Woonona, Bulli Workers and Gerringong.
