2019 Australian Championships: Queensland clean sweep the Pairs field

It was Queensland’s day at the 2019 Australian Championships, clean sweeping the Pairs field to collect both Men’s and Women’s gold medals.

Victoria Point’s Jade Groenewege and Sean Baker romped to their second-straight Men’s Pairs title at the event, while Broadbeach pairing Katelyn Inch and Julie Keegan navigated their way through a star-studded Women’s field for the title.

Queensland now has three from a possible four gold medals to start the 2019 Australian Championships, after winning the Women’s Triples gold medal on Day 1.

Wednesday will see the start of the Fours action, before Singles (Thursday) and Mixed Pairs (Friday) will round out the remainder of the event.

Men’s Pairs:

Gold Medal Match – Jade Groenewege, Sean Baker (Victoria Point, QLD) def. Aaron Bremner, Kane Coulls (West Lakes, SA) 16-6

Bronze Medal Match – Tristan Bakes (Devonport), Gene Ayton (Invermay, TAS) def. Aaron Appleby, Nathan Dawson (Kurri Kurri, NSW) 13-10

Women’s Pairs:

Gold Medal Match – Katelyn Inch, Julie Keegan (Broadbeach, QLD) def. Theresa Emberton (Morphett Vale), Patria McGrath (Marion, SA) 12-7

Bronze Medal Match – Kate Matthews, Genevieve Delves (Raymond Terrace, NSW) def. Jill Cornish, Nicole Mengel (Belconnen, ACT) 16-12

Bowls Australia (BA) will be live-streaming the Singles & Mixed Pairs action from December 5-6.
