2019 Golden Nugget: Wedlock and Scott secure prestigious titles

by Bowls Australia on August 8, 2019

BCiB Australian Jackaroos Corey Wedlock and Natasha Scott are the 2019 Golden Nugget champions following impressive finals performances in arguably one of the world’s most prestigious club events.

Having successfully navigated their way through the respective fields littered with stars of the sport, Wedlock accounted for fellow Jackaroo and club teammate Aaron Teys, while Scott de-throned four-time champion Jo Edwards (NZ), who was undefeated heading into the final.

Having finished second in his section, 23-year-old Wedlock produced an impressive semi-final performance against Ryan Bester to win through to the final, comfortably accounting for the Canadian 25-15 before continuing his momentum into the final.

Making the headlines on the final day at the Tweed Heads Bowls Club was the performance of 2019 Australian Open champion Scott, who produced come-from-behind victories in both her semi-final and final.

She trailed Chloe Stewart by seven shots (2-9) early in her semi-final and similarly in the final, found herself again on the back foot with a six-shot deficit against Edwards (2-8).

Scott will return to Tweed Heads at the end of the month to compete in the 2019 Australian Indoor Championships as she aims for the outdoor/indoor double in 2019.

Results:

Corey Wedlock (NSW) def. Aaron Teys (NSW) 25-17

Natasha Scott (AUS) def. Jo Edwards (NZ) 25-14
