2019 UK Tour: Jackaroos complete UK Tour with narrow defeat to England

by Bowls Australia on July 22, 2019

The BCiB Australian Jackaroos have completed their 14-day tour of the UK with a narrow defeat to England.

In what was the fourth and final Test Series of the tour, which included matches against Ireland, Wales and Scotland, Australia were two wins shy of England overall in the open disciplines, despite winning the final day by two rinks.

National Coach Steve Glasson was happy with the squad’s performance, in what was a hectic but immensely beneficial tour of the UK.

“We have experienced just about everything on and off the green. Apart from a few illnesses, everything has been exceptional,” he said.

“We would again like to extend our appreciation to Commonwealth Games Australia (CGA) for supporting and funding the BCiB Australian Jackaroos’ tour of the UK, in preparation for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

“The main intention was to further enhance our exposure, knowledge, tactics and understanding of playing on the outdoor greens in the UK, against some of the best nations in the world.

“The Jackaroos certainly stood up gallantly and it’s fair to say, were more competitive than ever, albeit understanding we have some areas we can improve in as well.

“The players, in most cases, have played 34 matches in two weeks against the best in the business and accepted the challenge unbelievably well.”

Congratulations are also in order for Samantha Shannahan, Ben Twist and Jake Fehlberg (Director: Grant Fehlberg) for each notching up 50 caps for Australia.
