All national events postponed until 2021

by Bowls Australia on August 17, 2020

All remaining national bowls events scheduled to occur before the end of the year have been postponed, Bowls Australia (BA) has confirmed today.

The decision, resulting from COVID-19’s impacted travel restrictions and quarantining measures, will delay the stagings of the upcoming Bowls Premier League (BPL), BPL Cup, Australian Championships, Australian Champion of Champions and Australian Multi-Disability Championships events.

The next scheduled event on the calendar, November’s BPL12 at Club Pine Rivers, will instead be played from April 20-23, 2021, and will become the 13th instalment of the BPL competition, with February’s event at Moama unaffected.

The BPL Cup National Finals will shift from the Club Pine River event to the earlier Moama event, with the 16 national finalists from this year now earning expense-paid trips to compete in the BPL Cup National Finals during BPL12 at Moama from February 23-26, 2021.

Rounding out this year’s deferments, the Australian Championships and Australian Champion of Champions events will move from their December dates but will remain at Dandenong Club in 2021.

The Australian Champion of Champions will instead be held on March 24 and 25, 2021, while the Australian Championships will move to May 24-28, 2021.

Both will be contested again in October 2021 at the inaugural staging of the Nationals at Broadbeach, which amalgamates the Australian Champion of Champions, Australian Under-18 Championships, Australian Sides Championships, Australian Senior-Sides Championships and Australian Championships events.

Next year’s Australian Multi-Disability Championships, which will be managed by BA for the first time, has been delayed from September 2021 until December 6-11, 2021, with the host venue still to be determined.

BA’s 2021 event calendar has been updated to reflect these changes and can be viewed below.
