Australia has fired an ominous warning ahead of next year’s Commonwealth Games after clean sweeping Malaysia in the international test series at Victoria’s Ocean Grove this afternoon.
Ranked number one in the world, Australia again flexed its muscle on the international stage against one of the sport’s powerhouse nations, winning both the men’s and women’s competitions, and as a result, clinching the overall honours with just 223 days until the bowls’ pinnacle event.
The green and gold contingent posted victories in four of the five tests held over the three days of competition, concluding the series with a 36 match point surplus, 78 to 42, and 161 shots in the black, 1030 to 869.
While preparations will continue to ramp up in the lead up to the 2014 event, the Australian Jackaroos and Australia A squad members face a nervous wait a head of the impending team announcement for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.
With 18 of the nation’s Commonwealth Games hopefuls putting in resounding performances in the Australia v Malaysia International competitive trial, the national selection panel now face the challenging task of trying to cull the list.
Eight players will be trimmed from the current list of 18, with the national side eager to build upon its three silver and one bronze medal from Delhi four years ago, and its 2006 performance in Melbourne of three gold, one silver and one bronze.
