Australia’s women led the way in a dominant start to the Trans Tasman lawn bowls Test series in Auckland, reports AAP form Auckland.
The New Zealand women lost the first of three Tests to their counterparts 5-1 on the Howick Bowling Club greens while the men’s first Test went to Australia on points differential after the scoreline was locked 3-3.
The Australian men’s fours skipped by Aron Sherrif produced the most decisive win, 18-8, to help set up an overall differential of plus-five.
Earlier, the men’s pairs and triples combinations shared one match each while New Zealand’s Shannon McIlroy won a tight singles match 21-19 over Mark Casey.
The women’s Test was no contest, with the only New Zealand win in six matches coming in the first pairs clash, won 14-11 by Jo Edwards and Val Smith over Rebecca Quail and Kelsey Cottrell.
Australia were too strong elsewhere, including Cottrell’s 21-14 defeat of Smith in the singles match.
