Australia’s Winning Edge announcement

by admin on April 22, 2013

Following the Australian Sports Commission’s announcement of funding for Australian sports’ high performance and participation areas, Bowls Australia Chief Executive Officer Neil Dalrymple made the following statement.
Bowls Australia acknowledges the Australia’s Winning Edge announcement made by Australian Sports Commission (ASC) relating to funding allocations to National Sporting Organisations for high performance success and for sports participation in 2013-14.
Bowls in Australia has experienced great success on the international stage recently with the highlights including winning back-to-back Trans Tasman encounters against New Zealand in April while a record breaking performance by the Australian Jackaroos team at the 2012 World Championships in Adelaide in December winning five gold medals and two silver medals from a possible eight medals on offer was the most dominant performance by any country in the event’s history.
In yesterday’s announcement, Bowls Australia was allocated $667,200 in the Australia’s Winning Edge High Performance distribution and $546,800 in the Participation distribution which represents a continuation of the existing funding allocation.
Bowls Australia acknowledges the wonderful support the Australian Sports Commission has and continues to provide bowls in Australia to further enhance high performance and looks forward to working closely with them ahead of the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and the Gold Coast in 2018.
Bowls has experienced a renaissance in international representation over the past five years with the introduction of the sport’s High Performance unit and the appointment of Steve Glasson as National Coach in that time. Glasson is supported by a committed team of National Training Centre coaches around Australia who work tirelessly to build upon the recent dominance of Australia on the international stage and continue to develop and nurture the next group of aspiring young Jackaroos.
