Bowls Australia thank Mark Cowan for the contribution he has made to the National Training Centre Program for the past five years. Mark Cowan concludes his role as National Training Centre Coach for Victoria and Tasmania today, and Bowls Australia wish to thank him for his service.

Bowls Australia acknowledge the contribution Cowan has made to the sport’s high-performance team during his five-year tenure, specifically in leading and managing the NTC Program in Victoria and Tasmania.

Through Cowan’s role as an NTC Coach, numerous players have reaped rewards across all levels of competition, demonstrated recently by the success of dual world champion Carla Krizanic.

Cowan’s work with Krizanic, who won gold in both the women’s triples and fours at the 34-nation quadrennial World Bowls Championships, in addition to many other athletes, has assisted and enabled players to achieve life-long goals and dreams.

Outside of the NTC Program, Cowan has also been a diligent volunteer and made valued contributed to numerous aspects of the sport, with significant contributions to the Under-18 teams at a state and national level and Bowls Australia’s National Officiating Advisory Group, where he was a past Chair.

Demonstrating his commitment to the continued growth of officiating, Cowan has only just returned from the World Bowls Championships in Christchurch, where assisted as an International Technical Official.

National Coach Steve Glasson said Cowan’s departure will be a loss for the sport, especially to the players he coached and mentored.

“Mark has years of knowledge, wisdom and experience and these attributes are not easily replaced,” Glasson said.

“Bowls Australia are grateful for the significant contribution Mark has made to the high-performance program and wish him every success in his future endeavours.

“He departs Bowls Australia having made a fantastic contribution to the sport at a state and national level and he should take a great deal of satisfaction from that.”
