BA partners with Sports Excellence Scholarship Fund

Disadvantaged children and youth competing at the highest level of bowls will have access to a new scholarship opportunity, after the national body inked a charitable agreement with Sports Excellence Scholarship Fund (SESF).

Through SESF, bowlers aged 10-18 years who are from low socioeconomic, indigenous and/or rural and regional backgrounds can apply for a $1,000 funding contribution towards their expenses to compete at national and international level events and School Sport Australia competitions.

The scholarships provide an important opportunity for the next generation of bowlers from financially disadvantaged backgrounds to remain in the sport’s talent pathway and compete at the highest level, with further mentoring and educational opportunities for SESF alumni and parents in place to help them achieve their potential.

SESF was established in 2012 and became a registered national charity this year, with the aim of alleviating part of the financial burden placed on emerging athletes and their families to ensure money is not a barrier to talent reaching their full potential.

BA CEO Neil Dalrymple said the charitable partnership provided a meaningful opportunity for an important demographic of bowls.

“Bowls Australia is pleased to become a SESF foundation partner during its inaugural year as a registered national charity and is optimistic about providing support for those that need it most,” Dalrymple said.

“Children and youth are an important demographic for the sport of bowls but we recognise that there are often financial impediments for them to be able to achieve their dreams and aspirations of competing on the national and international arena, and the support provided through this scholarship opportunity will ease that pressure to some extent.”

SESF Executive Director Nick Mooney said the scholarships help dreams become a reality for Australia’s youth.

“SESF is delighted to partner with Bowls Australia to support emerging talent to achieve their sporting goals and reduce the barriers to representing their state or country,” Mooney said.

“Every student needs support to reach their full potential and SESF helps sporting dreams become a reality for Australian Students.”
