Barrie Lester announced as ambassador for BA Disaster Relief Fund
Bowls Australia (BA) is delighted to announce BCiB Australian Jackaroo Barrie Lester as the male ambassador for the BA Disaster Relief Fund.
The three-time Commonwealth Games medalist will aid in the promotion of the fund and assist in the ongoing support of clubs who have been affected by tragic events.
Since its introduction, the BA Disaster Relief Fund has assisted a number of clubs across the country whereby their facilities have been severely damaged, and in some cases, destroyed.
Lester said he was humbled by the opportunity to represent a cause close to his heart.
“Growing up in the country and having frequently visited these areas along the journey, I’ve seen first-hand the devastation caused by natural disasters,” he said.
“You only have to look as recently as the North Queensland floods, Tasmanian and Victorian bushfires to understand the vulnerability of some clubs in regional areas.
“The Bowls Disaster Relief Fund is a terrific initiative to help these clubs pick up the pieces in the aftermath of tragic events.
“The sport of bowls prides itself on being an inclusive sport for all Australians and lending a hand in times of need is what Australians do for each other.”
Additionally, Lester, through BLEST Wines, contributes directly to the BA Disaster Relief Fund through the sale of the company’s products.
