BPL Cup: City Memorial claim 2021 title

Victorian club City Memorial has claimed the 2021 BPL Cup title following a tiebreak victory against New South Wales’ Charlestown.

The Warrnambool-based team of Vince Moloney, Neville Billington and Wayne Hall were representing the club in its fifth attempt for the elusive crown and began well, racing out to an early lead before a Charlestown power play changed the playing field with an end to play.

The side skipped by Vince Moloney capitalised on a triple in a power play of its own to seal the first set 12-6 and take the ascendancy.

In the second it was Charlestown’s Jarrod Duncan who began to dominate the heads and assist his club in clawing its way back into the contest.

Duncan’s efforts would see him salute as the MVP of the final, the second year in a row that the accolade has been awarded to a player in the runner-up squad.

The Tigers nullified a City Memorial power play before pouncing on one of their own to blow the Victorians out of the water 11-3 and force a tiebreak to decide the tournament for the second straight year.

The New South Wales club attempted drives to commence the decider but to no avail, with Vince Moloney and his squad dominating the head to seal a remarkable victory.

The 2022 BPL Cup National Finals will be staged during #BPL16 at Club Pine Rivers in November 2022.
