BPL Cup results process streamlined through BowlsLink

Bowls Australia’s (BA) national whole-of-sport information technology platform BowlsLink continued to prove its versatility this year, being used as the competition management system for the 2020 BPL Cup.

The use of BowlsLink through the BPL Cup was new for some clubs, with others having previously used it to manage other competitions such as pennant bowls.

South Australia’s Wallaroo Bowling Club used the system for the first time when hosting BPL Cup qualifiers.

“It was quite straightforward to use, fairly self-explanatory,” Wallaroo bowls manager Paul Banks said.

“We had a Zoom session with (BA Participation & Programs Manager) James Wilson which helped a lot, but even without his guidance it is easy enough to pick up.

“The program works out all the points and shots up and everything, so as long as the scores go in correctly, everything else is pretty well sorted.”

Adelaide’s Torrensville Bowling Club has previously used the system. Torrensville secretary Brenton Rolton said the system maintained its ease of use from pennant to the BPL Cup.

“We had no issues with it. This system is better than the one we had before, it makes things like inputting of teams much easier,” he said.

“The event is a great one, and being able to use BowsLink just makes it that bit easier to run.”

BowlsLink’s capabilities continued to grow in 2020, regularly being updated with new features introduced, including the Rink Booker system.

NSW Zone 8 Bowls Coordinator Gary Brookes said BA’s Regional Bowls Managers have done well in promoting and educating BowlsLink in the bowls community.

“I think it (BowlsLink) will work well as long as people take time to learn how to use it,” he said.

“That’s where the RBMs come in. David (Inglis) in our area has done a great job with it.

“BowlsLink will save a lot of time and hassles. You just go online and it’s done.”
