#BPL12: Day 3

by Lachlan Williams on February 26, 2021

As is often the case at the Bowls Premier League, day three of #BPL12 was moving day as finals places become harder and harder to get.

Going into the day undefeated, the Melbourne Pulse could only extend their winning streak to nine wins early in the day, suffering three consecutive losses but still one match clear at the top.

The Tweed Heads Ospreys and Adelaide Pioneers were the big movers, winning four and three games respectively to firm their finals aspirations.

Birthday-boy Scott Thulborn was pivotal for the Pioneers, with the team closing in on its first finals appearance in franchise history.

It looks as if Sydney Lions, Perth Suns and Brisbane Pirates will be vying for the last spot in the finals, with Perth and Sydney to meet in a crucial contest on Friday morning.

The Lions have bounced back superbly after a winless first day of play. Aron Sherriff put on a masterclass on the TV rink on Thursday night, putting some top-shelf bowls on display.

Murray Steamers’ hopes of back-to-back titles were dashed, now mathematically impossible to play finals with two games remaining.

The other BPL11 grand finalist, Melbourne Roys, will also miss finals, with just four wins going into the final day not enough to crack into the top four.

Play will resume from 11am AEDT at Moama on Friday.
