#BPL14: Day 3 wrap

by Val Febbo on February 24, 2022

Home-town heroes Moama Steamers have continued to press for a record equalling third Bowls Premier League (BPL) crown after yet another powerful showing at the Moama Bowling Club during #BPL14.

The Steamers claimed four victories and one just blemish for the day, with their only loss coming in the opening match-up of the day against the Sydney Lions.

From there on the franchise flexed its muscles, proving too strong in some clutch encounters which included three tie-break wins for the day, separating them from rest of the competition.

The final decider come courtesy of a magnificent Ryan Bester roll, which guided the jack to the ditch and nestled in just inches away, denying the Brisbane Pirates, who themselves won three of their five games for the day.

The Tweed Heads Ospreys also dominated their tie-breakers, with the two-time defending champions claiming three of their four scalps in deciders, steadily progressing up the ladder.

The night session boasted four tie-breaks out of the five matches, establishing the evenness of the competition, but the most relieved were the Melbourne eXtreme, who narrowly missed victory in four deciding sets on day three before finally saluting in the final match of the night with a well-deserved win against the Tasmania Tridents.

For Tasmania, it was a mixed day after beginning with a victory, ending up at two wins and three losses, as did the Melbourne Pulse, Perth Suns and Sydney Lions.

The Gold Coast Hawks would only register a solitary win and slipped outside of the all important top five, while the Adelaide Pioneers continued their quest for a maiden BPL crown with four victories to round out the night in second place.

#BPL14 action resumes from 10am on Thursday morning. Four matches will be streamed on Rinkside Live by Bowls Australia, before night matches are broadcast live on Fox Sports, Kayo and Sky Sport NZ from 4pm AEDT.
