#BPL14: Final five locked in after tense final round

by Lachlan Williams on February 25, 2022

With five minutes to play in the final round robin round of #BPL14, the teams rotated in and out of the top five regularly on what was a tense contest down to the final bowl.

With two rounds left to play on Friday morning, home-team Moama Steamers had all but secured top spot, claiming a tough tiebreak win over the Tweed Heads Ospreys first up to do so.

The Ospreys were on the chopping block for much of the morning, losing both of their games to leave their finals fate in the hands of other sides.

With the Gold Coast Hawks, Brisbane Pirates and Perth Suns breathing down their neck, it was a surprise tiebreak win that locked the Ospreys inside the top five.

The Gold Coast Hawks fell victim to the Melbourne eXtreme in a final round tiebreak, giving the eXtreme a rare tiebreak win and knocking the Hawks out of the finals.

The Pirates snatched a straight sets win over the Adelaide Pioneers to lock in fourth spot and ensure the Suns narrowly missed finals for the second consecutive event.

The final five is now locked in, with the Ospreys and Pirates to meet first up in an elimination final at 4pm.

The winner will then meet third-placed Sydney Lions in another elimination final, with the winner advancing to play the loser of the Steamers and Pioneers.

The winner of the Steamers and Pioneers moves straight to the grand final, meeting the preliminary final winner at 9pm.
