BPL15: Steamers, Tridents set pace on second day of play

by Lachlan Williams on May 24, 2022

Bowls Premier League action has returned to Club Pine Rivers after 12 months, with plenty of intriguing action taking place across the first two days and seven rounds of play.

After sailing through as the best team in the regular rounds back at BPL14, the Moama Steamers once again look set to be one of the top sides to beat this week, sitting atop the table with five wins and two losses.

The side took a few rounds to find rhythm with new star player Aron Sherriff, but he and teammates Ryan Bester and Natasha Van Eldik are looking dominant.

After taking home the wooden spoon at BPL14 in their first event, the Tasmania Tridents have equalled their win record from Moama to sit level on points with the Steamers in second place.

BPL14 champions Sydney Lions, home-team Brisbane Pirates and Melbourne Pulse round out the top five with fours wins each, all sides experiencing ups and downs.

Four sides sit in a logjam outside the top five on three wins, while the Tweed Heads Ospreys, who have won the last two BPLs at Pine Rivers, have registered just one win after seven rounds.

With four more rounds on Wednesday, there is still plenty left to play for as the ladder begins to take more shape.
