#BPL16 Day Two: Lions, Pulse set the pace

by Lachlan Williams on November 9, 2022

The Sydney Lions and Melbourne Pulse have created a small but crucial gap in the competition after seven rounds of play at #BPL16 at Brisbane’s Club Pine Rivers.

Day two of action saw four rounds of play, including the first of four nights of broadcast matches.

Defending champions Pulse recorded three victories during the day, before losing a grand final rematch and hometown derby to the Melbourne eXtreme in front of the TV cameras.

They sit second behind fellow 2022 BPL champions Sydney Lions (BPL14), also enjoying a 3-1 record on Tuesday.

The Lions have lost just two of seven matches, but their most impressive figure comes in the shot differential area, sitting +56 and averaging an impressive 15 shots per match.

Hometown favourites Moreton Bay Pirates secured a crucial tiebreak win in the final match of the day over the Tweed Heads Ospreys to move their win-loss ledger to 4-3, level on wins with the eXtreme.

The table sits log-jammed from fifth to ninth, with five teams recording three wins. The Gold Coast Hawks have work to do on Wednesday, with just two wins to their name.

Wednesday appears to be moving day, with the competition passing the halfway point and the top five beginning to take shape.

Rinkside Live coverage resumes from 9am AEST on Wednesday, with night matches broadcast live on Fox Sports, Kayo and Sky Sport NZ from 4pm AEST.
