BPL18: Tuesday recap
Three teams sit a cut above the rest at the completion of day two at BPL18 at Club Pine Rivers in Queensland’s Moreton Bay region.
For the second successive day, the Moama Steamers have concluded proceedings on top of the ladder following four wins and one blemish on another highly successful outing.
The defending champions continued their undefeated run in the morning session by overcoming a strong challenge by the Gold Coast Hawks in a tiebreak before suffering their first defeat at the hands of the Perth Suns in round five.
Cassandra Millerick, Ryan Bester and Aron Sherriff returned to the winners circle with a win over the Melbourne eXtreme in the final day session before winning an epic against the Moreton Bay Pirates in the final match of the day.
Having tied the opening set, the Steamers went down 0-6 after three ends in the second before securing a triple on a power play to roar back into contention and take the final exchange to win by a solitary shot and take the top spot.
After finishing on the bottom of the table in February’s event, the Tasmania Tridents have rocketed back up the table to sit second after two days, just one win shy of Moama.
Rebecca Van Asch, Rob McMullen and Michael Sims went undefeated through the day matches, accounting for the Suns, Pirates and Melbourne Pulse respectively, heading into their evening clash with the Sydney Lions full of confidence.
After a slow start against Sydney, it took some Sims magic to secure a four in the final end to make good of Van Asch’s leading, tying the stanza and putting pressure on their counterparts.
However, the Lions proved too strong too notch up their second win of the competition.
Also on five wins are the three-time winners in the Tweed Heads Ospreys, who cannoned into contention on day two, going undefeated across all four of their matchups to sit in third spot.
Chloe Stewart, Corey Wedlock and Aaron Teys were in rampant form on the Pine Rivers carpet, taking down the Pulse, Lions, Hawks and Pioneers on a fruitful day for the Club Tweed franchise.
The Hawks endured a horror start to the day, losing all three matches in the morning session before rebounding with a comeback win over the eXtreme in their night contest.
Gold Coast sit in fourth with a quartet of wins and are followed by the eXtreme, Pulse and Pirates, all a further victory back.
The Adelaide Pioneers, Lions and Suns round out the table with two salutations from their seven rounds.
