BPL18: Wednesday recap
As the battle for the BPL18 finals heats up, two teams have firmly entrenched themselves in the top two positions on the ladder after the third day of action at Club Pine Rivers.
For the third successive day, the Moama Steamers have concluded proceedings on the highest rung on the table following yet another superb day.
After going down to the Melbourne Pulse in the first match of the day defending champions were able to account for the Sydney Lions in a BPL17 grand final rematch before falling to the Adelaide Pioneers in their third contest.
A top of the table clash against the Tweed Heads Ospreys would ensue, and an inspired performance from Aron Sherriff, Ryan Bester and Cassandra Millerick ensured that they would enter the evening sessions on top.
The franchise would be first up against the Melbourne eXtreme, who would power through the contest and inflict the Steamers’ fourth defeat of the campaign.
The Ospreys have roared back to life, winning eight of nine matches after conceding the first two, including a staggering seven consecutive from rounds three to nine to sit equal on wins with Moama.
Chloe Stewart, Aaron Teys and Corey Wedlock would suffer successive defeats at the hands of the Tasmania Tridents and Steamers throughout the day before securing an epic come from behind victory against the Gold Coast Hawks in one of the matches of the tournament.
A win further back from the top two are the eXtreme, Tridents and Hawks, all looking to end a finals drought and put their names into contention for the title.
The Pioneers were forced to make a substitution with newly minted Right at Home Jackaroo Nathan Black coming in for an ill Scott Thulborn, but enjoyed four wins and just one defeat to emerge from the clouds and sit in sixth.
Home franchise, the Moreton Bay Pirates, follow closely in seventh, while the Pulse sit a further victory behind.
The Lions are placed in ninth with four wins while the Perth Suns endured a tough day going winless throughout their five contests.
