Briglia ready to tackle world indoors

By the time the World Bowls Indoor Championships rolls around on April 25, Robert Briglia will have had to wait 970 days for his shot at international glory following his 2019 Australian Indoors Championships title.

But that wait is almost over, as he and Genevieve Delves will head off to Bristol as they strive to bring the new international title home for Australia.

Speaking on Bowls Australia’s (BA) ‘The Right Line’ podcast, the Victorian is excited and determined to perform at his highest level throughout the event despite an unusual preparation in between two cities.

“It definitely has been a very long time, but I couldn’t be more excited for it to be finally happening,” Briglia said.

“I think it’s been almost three years now, just a couple of months off it so yeah I can’t wait.

“It’s fair to say it’s been an incredibly unusual preparation with everything, in Melbourne it was more about mental preparation because of six lockdowns over two years, but all of a sudden I got a notification saying the event was back on.

“It’s been about four months since I’ve come up to Queensland and it’s been non stop bowls in the Queensland Premier League as well as training on a few greens at clubs like Mooloolaba and Enoggera so it’s been insane.”

On his partnership with Right at Home Jackaroo Delves, Briglia says the pair have spoken about how their training has progressed, but have opted to keep it simple.

“We have chatted, but we’ve been keeping it simple because being in different states and only having met each other briefly has made it difficult to tee things up more frequently,” he said.

“But yes we have kept things simple in terms of a game plan and it’s made it quite easy to do training and preparation around the mixed pairs because we seem very like minded so I didn’t have to change too much to my plans.

“I’m so excited to be playing with Gen, she’s an absolute cracker.”
