Burnside Pairs: Australians make move ahead of final day

The second day of the 2023 Burnside Pairs has proved to be yet another sensational one for the Australian contingent that have travelled across the ditch to New Zealand.

Three of the four pairs progressed through the pool stages into the top division of the post sectional phase, while the other progressed to the second division.

Kylie Whitehead and Dawn Hayman commenced the day with a 6-15 loss to Bruce McNish and Jonathan Flint in the final match of Section 2, but it was enough to claim second place and book passage into Division 1.

The Right at Home Jackaroos then put their foot on the accelerator, taking a commanding position in their section by claiming two thrilling wins to end the afternoon in first place with one round to play.

Cohen Litfin and Nathan Black maintained their impressive form across the ditch, notching up three wins from as many contests to maintain an undefeated record across two days.

BURNSIDE PAIRS RESULTS HERE

The duo completed Section 3 with a 15-11 win over Matt and Mike Small to ensure top spot before clinching a 21-10 victory over Andrew Kelly and Mike Galloway in the first Division 1 post sectional match.

Wins kept coming as the South Australia and Queensland combination took down Jonty Horwell and Hamish Kelleher 14-11 to put themselves in a magnificent position as the competition heats up on the final day.

It was a mixed day for Kate Matthews and Jessie Cottell who managed to top Section 4 with a 15-10 win against Craig Carter and Jeff Nowell in their final pool matchup.

However they faced fierce competition I n their Division 1 section, sustaining two losses to finish the day in fourth place with one round to play.

Cody Packer and Aaron Teys would finish third in their section following a 10-21 loss to Graham Skellern and Bruce Wakefield, meaning they progressed to post section Division 2.

The pair rebounded in sensational fashion, claiming two victories with a combined shot difference of 17 to end the day in first place of their section.

The final day of the tournament kicks off tomorrow with the concluding divisional games to be followed by knockout semifinals and finals.
