Cancer Council to get bowlers sun set for the green

Bowls Australia (BA) has commenced work with Cancer Council to ensure bowlers are protected from the sun, both on and off the green.

As BA’s preferred supplier of sun-care products, a range of Cancer Council sunscreens will be available for purchase through BA’s e-store, with sales supporting the research, prevention and support of all cancers.

Cancer Council is the leading cancer charity in Australia, uniting the community, creating hope, providing support and saving lives.

A key focus of this work will centre around educating the bowls audience on sun cancer and the need to be sun smart, backed up by the Cancer Council’s research and supporting collateral.

BA CEO Neil Dalrymple said this will result in benefits for individuals, clubs and the wider community.

“Bowlers are often susceptible to the harsh Australian climate whilst enjoying the sport, so proper skincare and skin cancer prevention are crucially important to our participants,” Dalrymple said.

“Working together with Cancer Council on the sale of their sunscreens through our e-store is a really positive move for individuals; with a focus on education and prevention, bowls clubs; who will get access to the number one selling sunscreen brand at a discounted rate, and the wider community; with every purchase contributing to cancer research and services.

“Ultimately, it’s ‘good for you, good for your club and good for the world’ and a cause which BA hope will be fully embraced by the entire bowls community.”

Cancer Council Australia Acting CEO Megan Varlow said they work across every aspect of cancer and are reliant on the generosity of the community to fund their work and help achieve a vision of a cancer-free future.

“Cancer Council Australia is excited to be working together with Bowls Australia to help keep the community safe both on and off the green, our range of sun protection products, including our sunscreen range, have been designed to meet the needs of our harsh Australia conditions,” Varlow said.

“Over the past 16 years, Vitality Brands Worldwide has been an official licensee, and together with the Cancer Council, has grown the Cancer Council sunscreen brand to number one in the market.

“Playing Lawn Bowls can mean spending long hours in the sun and exposure to UV radiation which can lead to skin cancer; Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world, where at least two in three people will be diagnosed with skin cancer before the age of 70.”

Through BA’s e-store, clubs will benefit from the sale of sunscreens and the wider community will benefit from the contribution to cancer research.

Cancer Council sunscreens have been voted the ‘most trusted sunscreen’ five years running and is the number one selling sunscreen brand in Australia.

Clubs are able to register online to be eligible for discounted pricing available exclusively through BA’s e-store.
