the finals of three different disciplines at this year’s $140,000 Australian
Open. In an unprecedented effort, Lynsey Clarke has progressed to
the finals of three different disciplines at this year’s $140,000 Australian
Open.
Following her semi final wins in the singles and fours competitions,
Clarke and her pairs partner (and fours teammate) Kelsey Cottrell defeated Anne
Johns and Natasha Scott 20-7 to move through to this afternoon’s title decider.
A thirteen point win to the defending champions was enough
to secure their place in the final as Johns and Scott bowed out of the event.
Fortunately for Johns, she still has the chance to win the
singles and fours titles- where she will play against, and team up with, pairs opponent
Clarke.
Clarke and Cottrell got out to a 10-1 lead after four ends and Johns and Scott were unable to curtail to
their march toward the final as the winners picked up eight shots in the last
four ends before the match was concluded at the end of the thirteenth.
Clarke and Cottrell will now face Emma Brown and Noelene
Dutton who secured a 20-14 win in their semi final showdown with Carmen Sanders
and Judy Eddy, in wet conditions yesterday afternoon.
Brown and Dutton had previously defeated highly fancied
young guns, Western Australian duo Kristina Krstic and Rechelle Cole in the
second round, before beating Veronica Kelly and Melissa Larcombe in the quarter
finals.
