Club Sunbury eager to reap rewards from new undercover facility

With the recent opening of a brand new undercover green equipped with wonderful hospitality facilities, Club Sunbury has established itself as a destination club in Melbourne’s north-west.

Opened to the public in mid-April at the club’s Community Open Day, where BCiB Australian Jackaroo and Sunbury member Carla Krizanic delivered the very first bowl on the green, the club anticipates the new facility will provide year-round benefits to its existing and potential new members.

“The club is excited to share this fantastic facility with everyone. It’s been great to see the bowlers reactions and the joy experienced playing on the green, but it has also raised our profile within the local community,” said Bowls Business Development Coordinator, James Whitehead.

“People are visiting to try the new food menu and are so impressed with the new bowls green that they stay for hours to bowl as well.

“What we are now able to offer, essentially, is bowls 365 days a year. We’re using this to offer extended barefoot bowling times, easy access for local schools, guaranteed play for all functions booked, as well as a safe environment for those with disabilities to come and learn the game. It’s really enabling us to grow the game of bowls within Sunbury and the surrounding areas.”

Bowls Australia (BA) Regional Bowls Manager Paul Holtschke applauded the club for its foresight and ambition in constructing what is now one of the premier undercover venues in Melbourne.

“It’s great that clubs like Sunbury can invest so much money into the sport of bowls,” he said.

“Facilities like Sunbury’s will continue to keep our sport front and centre within our communities.”
