New South Wales’ Corey Wedlock has been crowned as the 2021 Sport Australia Male Bowler of the Year at Bowls Australia’s (BA) Awards Night.

Wedlock has been nothing short of sensational on the green, claiming gold in triples and fours for his state at the postponed 2020 Australian Championships at Club Dandenong earlier this year.

In addition, Jackaroo Wedlock was part of the Tweed Heads Ospreys juggernaut in the Bowls Premier League, taking home both of the 2021 events in Moama and Club Pine Rivers respectively.

Playing out of Warilla, the 25-year-old finished as the runner-up behind Trystan Smallacombe at the 2020 Australian Champion of Champions.

After narrowly missing out on the coveted prize in recent seasons, the Jackaroo is jubilant to finally have it in his trophy cabinet.

“I’m very honoured to win this award, I’ve gone close the last few years but haven’t quite got there, so to finally get over the line is very pleasing,” Wedlock said.

“My home club at Warilla, thank you for the continuous support and allowing me the time off that I need to compete at the highest level and play at these events throughout the year to earn ranking points.

“To my family, if it wasn’t for you guys I wouldn’t be where I am today, especially with dad and my grandparents travelling me around when I was young.”
