Dandenong Club to host dual national events

by Bowls Australia on June 17, 2020

Following careful consideration, Bowls Australia (BA) can confirm Victoria’s Dandenong Club as the host venue for the 2020 Australian Championships and Australian Champion of Champions later this year.

Located 30 minutes south-east from Melbourne’s CBD, the recently-renovated complex will host the events back-to-back in a bumper week for bowls, from November 30 to December 8.

Dandenong Club President Charlie Daly said the club was delighted to have secured the hosting rights for two of Australia’s most prestigious events.

“This is a great opportunity for our club,” Daly said.

“Our Board have been extremely enthusiastic about reinvigorating our bowls operations. We have a wonderful new undercover facility, real growth in participation and membership, while supported by an enthusiastic staff servicing the bowls program.

“We are excited to have been presented with the opportunity to showcase our club on the national stage and assist in the ‘re-launch’ of the sport.”

The club completed a $1.4 million construction of their state-of-the-art undercover facility in late 2018 and have since invested heavily in the sport, contributing teams to the Bowls Premier League (Melbourne Pulse) and Ultimate Bowls Championships, as well as hosting a number of events, including their annual Pro-Am and Bowls Victoria’s Metropolitan Pennant Finals.

Both events were originally scheduled to be staged in October, within the inaugural Nationals, however, as a result of the disruption to the sport resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, BA confirmed the partial-cancellation of the Nationals and rescheduled the detached Australian Championships and Australian Champion of Champions events.

More information pertaining to the events and qualifying processes will be disseminated by your relevant State or Territory Association closer to the event.
