Henry, who first won the event in 2011 and went back-to-back over the last two years, is within striking distance after advancing to yet another semi-final of the $30,000 event.
The former Northern Irish international had to earn his berth in the semis though, with up-and-coming Tasmanian Taelyn Male pushing him to the last bowl of a tie-break, after winning the opening set comfortably.
Standing in Henry’s way is Bowls Premier League dual champion Ben Twist, who upstaged Henry’s Warilla Gorilla teammate Aaron Teys in this afternoon’s quarter-final.
Twist pencilled in a straight sets victory against the 2015 Australian Open singles winner, which was showcased on Bowls Australia’s “Rinkside Live” live-stream on Facebook and can be relived here.
Henry and Twist’s blockbuster match-up will take place at 11am tomorrow, and will feature on SBS’ The Bowls Show next month.
Forster’s Dylan Riley secured a spot in the semis in the other half of the draw, after prevailing in straight sets against Blackburn’s Neville Brown, but must wait to find out the name of his next opponent.
In the women’s competition, Canadian international Kelly McKerihen booked a spot in the broadcasted business end of the event after upstaging Yarrasville Footscray’s Sara Rodger, who earlier knocked out Jackaroos captain Lynsey Clarke, in a tie-break.
Cabramatta’s Diana Davis also cemented her spot in the semi-final after prevailing against St Johns Park’s Jo Worsley, with the McKerihen v Davis semi scheduled for 9am tomorrow.
On the opposite side of the draw, dual world champion Rebecca Van Asch secured a semi-final berth after getting the better of BPL Melbourne Roys ace Tiffany Brodie in the tie-break, despite Brodie collecting a full-count of 4 shots on the penultimate end.
The two remaining quarter-finals commenced at 2.45pm, between Engadine’s David Ferguson and East Launceston’s Robert McMullen, and St Johns Park’s Jamie-Lee Worsnop and Cabramatta’s Ellen Ryan.
