The Taren Point bowler brings a wealth of experience to the role with a long and esteemed career as a Technical Official at major national and international events including the 2011 Asia Pacific Championships and the 2012 World Championships in Adelaide, the 2012 and 2014 World Cups at Warilla, in addition to numerous Australian Indoor Championships and the country’s showpiece event, the Australian Open.
Hockings has also held a number of senior volunteer positions within the sport in NSW including Women’s Bowls NSW Match Chair since 2010, Director of Women’s Bowls NSW since 2012, a member of the World Masters Games Organising Committee for bowls in 2011 and held office as Secretary, Treasurer, Vice-President and Selector at club level.
Alongside her off-green experience, Hockings’ on-green achievements include over 50 state test appearances for NSW accumulated over a six year period from 2004-2009, numerous state, district and club championships titles as well as three Number 1 State Pennant titles.
Hockings has received recognition for her contribution to the sport over many years being named a finalist in the Bowls Australia Volunteer of the Year award for two consecutive years in 2012 and 2013. She was also a won the Official of the Year award in 2013 and was a finalist in the same category a year later.
Taren Point based Hockings is one of three Australians selected as International Technical Officials to officiate at the sport’s pinnacle event, the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games in Scotland next month.
“Pam is a wonderful appointment to this new and integral role, given her extensive and successful playing and officiating career over many years, and she will provide an outstanding resource for Bowls Australia at our national events,” Bowls Australia Chief Executive Officer Neil Dalrymple said.
“The Australian Open is entering an exciting period with its relocation to the Gold Coast for the next five years and Pam will play an important role in the success of that event.”
Hockings said she was equally enthused about performing the role.
“I am extremely exited about this position with BA and look forward to using my knowledge and experience gained over a long and varied bowls career in assisting with BA events,” Hockings said.
The role of Tournament Director will focus on providing technical expertise to assist with the delivery and decision making process of events, with a focus on the Australian Open.
