Jackaroos aspirants selected for marquee NSW hit-outs

by Aidan Davis on July 22, 2019

The next batch of aspiring BCiB Australian Jackaroos hopefuls will test their mettle during hit-outs at two marquee NSW club events next month.

Bowls Australia’s High Performance contingent will field composite teams made up of players from the top-tiered BCiB Australian Jackaroos and second-tiered Emerging Jackaroos squads at Ettalong Bowls Club’s ‘Prestige Fours’ event, from August 21 to 23, and Soldiers Point Bowling Club’s ‘Soldiers Point Classic’ on August 24 and 25.

Jackaroos stalwarts Aaron Wilson, Ben Twist and Jesse Noronha will lead the eight-strong team at the Prestige Fours, accompanied by five Emerging Jackaroos’ men.

Four of the green and gold contingent’s mainstays, in Noronha, Natasha Scott Ray Pearse and Corey Wedlock will headline the 12-strong open squad set to contest the Soldiers Point Classic, in addition to eight prospective future international contenders from the Emerging pool.

Assistant National Coach Gary Willis, who will take the reins at both events, said they provided fantastic opportunity for developing the nation’s budding stars.

“It is a great opportunity for some of our younger superstars to compete on the big stage alongside some of our fully-fledged established players,” Willis said.

“They will have to get up to speed quick as both events are highly competitive.

“Ettalong BC have been supporting both development and full Australian teams at this event for the last six years, which has contributed strongly to our preparations for developing our personnel.

“Soldiers Point will see our team take on some absolute legends of the game with NSW sending teams encompassing their developing, over-40 and over-60 representative teams, so the calibre will be very high.

“I’d like to publicly express my appreciation, on behalf of Bowls Australia, to both Ettalong and Soldiers Point for their continued assistance in providing these opportunities to develop our players.”
