Jarryd Davies – a star on the rise

by Aidan Davis on December 12, 2018

The accolades just keep rolling in for Jarryd Davies.

The Melton 15-year-old was last week selected for the Bowls Victoria Under 18s test team to take on South Australia in Geelong next month.

In the past month, Jarryd won gold in the men’s pairs with teammate Cooper Wescombe at the Stellar Victorian Open at Shepparton.

He also won the Vic Medal, awarded to the player who accumulates the most points across mixed pairs, pairs, singles and triples at the open.

Mum Marianne says friends and family are very proud of the young bowls champion who currently plays with Essendon.

Jarryd, who has been playing for six years, plays at least four days a week and is obsessed with the sport, Mrs Davies says.

“None of our family bowled before but now we all do,” she says.

“My mother took Jarryd along to bowls one day then he came home and said he wanted to play lawn bowls. Now, once he’s on the green, you can’t get him home.”

Davies also won the Australian Junior Championships Boy’s Pairs and Singles double in October.
