Journey to the World Bowls Championships: Corey Wedlock

Ahead of next week’s World Bowls Championships, the Right at Home Jackaroos share their journeys across the years that has seen them selected for the sport’s showpiece event on the Gold Coast.

Up next, Corey Wedlock.

How did you get started in bowls?
My dad played and I used to head down the club with him for roll ups.

Which was the first bowls club you became involved with?
Bondi Bowling Club

Which clubs have you been involved with throughout your journey?
Bondi BC, Kensington BC, Waverley BC, Urunga BC, West Coffs BC, Mt Lewis BC, Cabramatta BC, Warilla BC, Tweed Heads BC, Burleigh Heads BC and Bundoora BC.

Who is your current club and how have they shown you support throughout your career?
Warilla Bowling And Recreation Club. The club and members have been awesome since I joined. They have been really supportive of me and allowing the time off I need represent at the highest level. I love representing the Gorillas.

Who has been the biggest influence on your bowls journey and why?
Definitely my dad. He was always there for me and backed me from day dot.

Is there a particular coach who has influenced your bowls journey the most?
Probably my dad and Gary Willis.

Why is the 2023 World Bowls Championships so important to you and the people who have helped you on your journey?
Obviously It’s my first World Bowls Championships and something I have dreamt of growing up is representing Australia at the tournament. There is no better feeling then putting on the green and gold. It is also very special for all the family, friends, players and coaches that have had an influence in my career along the way.
