Juniors book tickets to golden matches

The Big V is on the hunt for gold at the Australian Under-18 Championships The stage has been set for a thrilling conclusion to the 2013 Australian Under-18 Championships in Sorrento, Western Australia after the first four disciplines booked their tickets to tomorrow’s gold medal matches.

Pressing their case for glory was Victoria, who is in the prime position to mount an attack on the nation’s premier junior competition after securing a berth in the ultimate decider of all four initial disciplines following the penultimate day of play.

Victoria’s Australian junior representative Chloe Stewart eased her way into the final with her third consecutive victory from the qualifying rounds, finishing with an astonishing 41 shots in the black, and will now confront host state favourite Elizabeth Allen, from Western Australia, after she rolled past highly fancied NSW young gun Ellen Ryan by 7 shots to finish on top of her section of the draw.

Stewart’s four junior team mates; Cody Sylvester, Natasha Russel, Elise Rigoni and Tayla Morison, will also be given the opportunity to roll for gold tomorrow despite dropping their last rubber to South Australia by a slender 3 shots, and will encounter NSW’s Samantha Noronha, Jamie-Lee Worsnop, Dawn Hayman and Natalie Noronha, who slotted into pole position courtesy for three straight wins and a 40 shot margin.

In the boys’ event, the Big V’s Jayden Christie and Joshua Corless lost their second encounter to Tasmania but still managed to top their half of the draw after overcoming South Australia in the last round, and will now confront NSW’s Greg Jeans and Dylan Skinner.

Meanwhile in the triples, hometown heroes Wesley Neilson, Dan Nicholls and last year’s dual gold medallist David Downey topped the table with their third consecutive win, finishing with a 25 shot margin, and will face Victoria’s Troy Mansbridge, Jay Bye-Norris and Nathan Lynch for the opportunity to claim the gold medallion.
