Murphy to Chair Commonwealth Games Athlete Advisory Group

by Aidan Davis on July 13, 2019

Jackaroos stalwart Karen Murphy has been appointed the Co-Chair of Commonwealth Games Australia’s Athlete Advisory Group (AAG).

Murphy will Chair the important advisory group alongside Para-swimmer Matt Levy OAM, following an announcement from Commonwealth Games Australia (CGA) yesterday.

Murphy, who boasts a gold and three silver medals among her accolades achieved over five Commonwealth Games campaigns, is vocal about the role the Group can play in supporting the overarching work of CGA and the Commonwealth Games movement.

An interim AAG was established by CGA in September 2017 to provide athlete input into the planning and strategies of the Gold Coast 2018 team, with its tenure concluding following the Games.

The value of the Group was recognised, with a subsequent recommendation to the CGA Board that the AAG be formalised.

The group will serve through to the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, with three-time Australian team Chef de Mission and CGA board member Steve Moneghetti acting as the conduit between the AAG and CGA Board.
