Nothing stopping Hank from his bowls passion

Sometimes it’s the little things that make all the difference, and bowls clubs certainly have that opportunity within the community.

Take Boorowa and the Collins family for example.

Located in regional NSW, about an hour-and-a-half from Wagga Wagga, bowls in Boorowa is a passion for the Collins family.

After watching his parents play, as well as his 15-year-old sister Amanda, young Hank Collins’ interest in bowls peaked.

The seven-year-old has mild autism, making the family environment extra important.

With Hank wanting to get involved, his parents sought out to find a set of small bowls, without much luck.

Regional Bowls Manager David Inglis was called on for some help, and with support from the wider RBM team, a small junior set of bowls were tracked down for Hank to hit the green with.

“Hank’s parents were appreciative we had taken the time to try and help them out,” Inglis said.

Hank’s parents and sister already play social triples, and are now eyeing off entering as a fours team in the future.

“The bowling club has now subsequently donated a set of bowls to Amanda and the encouragement and assistance that she is receiving from all members is fantastic,” Inglis said.

“Now that Hank also has a set of bowls that he can comfortably use, the family can play as one.”

Amanda is very keen on bowls, hoping to play pennants next year and participate in the Zone 8 juniors championships.

With the whole family now kitted out with equipment, they can take to the green together and enjoy the special bond that bowls offers.
