Online learning platform, BowlsLearn, launched

by Bowls Australia on October 19, 2022

A new national self-paced online learning platform, titled BowlsLearn, has been unveiled to increase the capabilities and reduce the barriers to coaching and officiating.

BowlsLearn will complement other methods of education for the sport’s volunteer workforce, in particular coaches and officials, while also providing new training in other areas such as BowlsLink and program coordination.

Many of the coaching and officiating courses/modules can now be partially completed online with an on-green component to be completed at the conclusion of the self-paced learning.

BowlsLearn is seen as a complementary product to the sport’s existing training and development offering and will not replace current face-to-face training courses for coaching and officiating offered by State and Territory Associations (STAs).

“The launch of BowlsLearn will provide another option for training for a vital section of our bowls community – our volunteers, who are undoubtedly the lifeblood of the sport,” Bowls Australia’s GM of Participation and Programs Chris Wallace said.

“For those that may find it difficult to travel to courses or spend a lot of time at face-to-face training, BowlsLearn will be a useful method for them to help improve their knowledge and skills in many areas of the sport.”

Courses available at the launch of BowlsLearn include:

  • Rookie Rollers Coordinators course
  • Introductory Coach course
  • Club Coach course*
  • Selection module
  • Markers course**
  • Measurers course**
  • National Umpires Course**
  • BowlsLink – Pennant Manager module

Note: Advanced Coach course is only to be offered via Face-to-Face or Online/Video

*On-Green Training and Assessment Component session (for Club Coaches) to be completed by participants with sessions to be organised through their STA following completion of self-paced learning component

**On-Green Training and Assessment Component session (for Officials courses) to be completed by participants with sessions to be organised through their STA following completion of self-paced learning component

In coming months and years, more courses and modules will be added to BowlsLearn as it builds to become a comprehensive national training hub for the sport of Bowls.
