Relief funds issued to flood-affected bowls clubs

More than $40,000 will be issued from the Bowls Australia Disaster Relief Fund (DRF) to bowls clubs across Queensland and NSW to assist in the recovery from the recent devastating floods.

$43,000 in direct financial assistance will be spread across Queensland clubs The Albert, Tansey, Samford and Goodna as well as NSW clubs Condong, Lithgow City, Kyogle, Camden Sports, Wisemans Ferry and Mona Vale.

The DRF was established more than 10 years ago to provide financial assistance to clubs impacted by natural disasters.

In recent years, it has been used by clubs impacted by bushfires, but now will lend a hand to clubs impacted by the heavy flooding throughout the first few months of 2022.

The floods are the largest single natural disaster to strike bowls clubs for many decades and on early assessments, the damage bill will be in excess of $3 million.

The DRF relies on the generosity of clubs and individuals to donate where possible to help play their part in assisting those in the bowls community doing it tough.

Bowls Australia CEO Neil Dalrymple said it has been heartening to see the bowls community step up to help those in flood-impacted areas.

“It has been encouraging to see that a number of Clubs and individuals across Australia have looked to offer a helping hand already, via cash or equipment donations,” he said.

“The Disaster Relief Fund is one way we can provide much-needed assistance to impacted clubs. It is an extra sum of money they can use to help get back on their feet.”

The DRF is always available to make donations to, with all funds redistributed to clubs in need.

In addition to accessing funds through the DRF, impacted clubs can also be supported through the donation of specific items, with items such as greenkeepers’ equipment, floor coverings and furniture and green-side items (e.g. outdoor seating, rink pegs, drink holders, scoreboards etc.) among the most needed.

If you or your club is able to donate any items to a club in need, please email participation@bowls.com.au to facilitate your donation.
