Stockland Retirement Village residents west of Sydney recently had the opportunity to learn from one of Australia’s top bowlers during a special coaching clinic.

BCiB Australian Jackaroo Karen Murphy visited Stockland’s Macarthur Gardens Retirement Village in late August, passing on tips to enthusiastic retiree lawn bowlers.

The Commonwealth Games gold medallist spent time with several interested residents, chatting all things bowls and providing some expert knowledge on the sport. The session was well received, described as a “day of fun” by one resident.

“There was a really enthusiastic group that I ran through some training drills with. The whole idea was to make it as fun as possible,” Murphy said.

“The facilities out there were great and the staff were brilliant too.”

Macarthur Gardens Retirement Village assistant manager Jessica Flood was full of praise for the session.

“It was a pleasure working with Karen Murphy. Her fun, friendly and inviting attitude built a good rapport with our residents from the moment of arrival and the session was very informative,” she said.

“It was a beautiful day and there were smiles all round.”

The coaching session at Macarthur Gardens was the seventh of its type to run at a Stockland venue this year as part of the partnership with Bowls Australia.

Lawn bowls is one of several ways Stockland Retirement Village residents keep active across Australia.
