2019 Trans Tasman Test Series: Senior Jackaroos confirmed

Following standout performances at the 2019 Australian Senior Sides Championships, a 10-strong Over-60’s contingent has been selected to represent Australia at the Trans Tasman Test Series next month.

New South Wales (NSW) trio and former Jackaroos Sam Laguzza (Cap no. #99), Beth Quinlan (#78) and Betty Herbertson (#47) headline the team, who will line-up alongside the Open and Development teams against New Zealand on the Gold Coast from November 25-27.

Laguzza, who has won the Australian Open Over-60’s Men’s Pairs two years running, will lead his team in Singles action, with Western Australia’s Noelene Abe to command the Singles position for the Women, fresh off the back of her 5th-place finish in the recent Australian Champion of Champions event.

Elsewhere, Laguzza will be joined in the team by NSW teammates Robbie Warren and Terry Warder, with the trio part of the state’s John Dobbie AM Men’s Overall victory at the 2019 Senior Sides.

The Men’s team will be completed by the inclusions of Queensland’s John Bain and Victoria’s Steve Sullivan, two of seven players selected who will don the green and gold for the first time.

Abe will be joined in the Women’s team by a wealth of international experience in the form of NSW pair Quinlan and Herbertson, with Victoria’s Anna Miles and Queensland’s Louise Witton to round out the five, the latter part of the dominant Queensland Women’s team who swept through the 2019 Senior Sides without tasting defeat en-route to the Betty Collins OAM Women’s trophy.

Witton (1), Abe (3), Miles (5), Herbertson (8) and Quinlan (9) were among the best-performed female skips at the 2019 Senior Sides, while Warren (3) was prominent in the Men’s skips standings.
