Sporting Schools takes flight in the Hunter Valley
St Phillips Christian College is the latest school to adopt Jr. Jack Attack (JJA) as part of the Sporting Schools program. Situated in the heart of the picturesque wine-region that is the Hunter Valley, the St Phillips Christian College is the latest school to adopt Jr. Jack Attack (JJA) as part of the Sporting Schools program.
In conjunction with the Australian Sports Commission (ASC), Bowls Australia introduced JJA via the Sporting Schools program in 2015 as part of a $160 million government initiative to get more children playing sport.
Comprising of early learning to senior school students, St Phillips elected bowls as their preferred sport through the Sporting Schools program with teacher Jason Hamilton partnering with Central Coast/Hunter Regional Bowls Manager Mark Whiteman in getting the program up and running.
With the program scheduled to roll out during the entire Term 4, it was formally introduced in front of the entire school at the back-end of Term 3 to a tremendous reception.
Hamilton commenated the entire event in front of the school’s Principal, teachers and students, with the kids extremely attentive and enthusiastic with the fanfare the JJA program delivers.
Whiteman said it was the most enthusiastic launch he has been involved in.
“This truly was the most enthusiastic and interesting launch to a bowls program I have been involved with and it will ensure that this program will be a huge success,” he said.
“I look forward to attending a session in Term 4 to assist Jason in facilitating a session with the students and connecting them with a local club where they can further their enjoyment of our sport.”
