Victoria’s Club Sunbury has clinched the 2021 DrinkWise Club of the Year award at Bowls Australia’s (BA) Awards Night.

The Club has been at the forefront of implementing programs to increase participation levels across all ages and sizes.

Sunbury has hosted BPL Cup preliminary rounds and are Jack Attack licensed, and have launched Rookie Rollers in order to attract more children to the sport of bowls.

Throughout school holidays, it has welcomed 25 children through its doors on multiple occasions in January and April for specialised programs.

In addition, Club Sunbury has established a ‘Bowling With Babies’ program to allow mothers an opportunity to remain active with their new borns.

The Club will make its Bowls Premier League debut at BPL14 in Moama at the end of February, under the moniker, ‘Melbourne eXtreme’.

Club Sunbury’s General Manager, Andrew Breeden-Walton, reveals that the club’s master plan in 2018 was the catalyst for such success and acknowledges the tireless work of the bowls committee and club members.

“Club Sunbury embarked on a master plan in 2018 to formulate a four stage development for the club premises, and has built stage one, being the covered green and raised concourse and kiosk areas,” he said.

“The club celebrated its 60th year in 2021, and last month held a dinner and celebration night for life members, bowls members, committee and the board.

“Our members are what count at the club, as are the volunteers and bowlers who play pennant and practice week in, week out, and enjoy social bowls days.

“The bowls committee, let by President Lee Wesley, should be proud of this award, continuing to contribute strongly to the club.”
