The Nationals: Day 3 wrap

Multi-Disability Championships

A plethora of events kicked off on day three of the nationals at Mermaid Beach with some of Australia’s Commonwealth Games silver medallists taking to the greens.

Serena Bonnell was in action in the women’s B5/B6 singles and has finished the day undefeated following the forfeit of Victorian Gwen Fabris with an injury.

She is joined on two wins by fellow Right at Home Para Jackaroo Jo Hunter, who enjoyed an unblemished day for New South Wales.

Hunter leads the way going into the final rounds on shot difference.

In the bronze position heading into the final day is Fabris who enjoyed a round one win over Michelle Campbell.

In the B7/B8 women’s singles, the semifinals have been decided with three Tasmanians progressing to the final quartet.

Marijke Raine topped section one as she goes on to meet Victoria’s Alison East for a place in the decider.

In the other matchup Debbie Maher will meet Shannon Hyland who overcame a strong group including Birmingham 2022 silver medallist Cheryl Lindfield.

The B7/B8 men’s pairs, Australian Open champions Cooper Whitestyles and Damien Delgado will take on Tasmania’s Jacob Sheerin-Wall and Dennis Bassett.

In the other semifinal will be Alan Ryman and Para Jackaroo David Minns up against fellow national squad member Chris Flavel and his South Australian teammate Mike Embert who progressed following a final round challenge.

In the B5/B6 men’s pairs, South Australia’s Andrew Mason and Darryl Reed overcame an opening round defeat to top the table ahead of Queensland’s Tony Bonnell and Brett Sellars.

Over-60’s Sides Series

Over at Broadbeach it is Victoria who have ended day one at the top of the ladder in the men’s Senior Sides Series after a 77-37 win against the Northern Territory.

Sitting in second is South Australia who defeated Tasmania by 21 shots with Queensland and New South Wales the other two victors of the day against the ACT and Western Australia respectively.

The NSW squad edged WA by a solitary shot.

In the women’s event Victoria again holds top spot ahead of Queensland, while South Australia an Western Australia claimed the other wins of the day.

SA and WA won by nine and six shots respectively over New South Wales and Tasmania in closely fought contests.

The ACT have finished the day in seventh with the Northern Territory in eighth.
