The women’s Australian Sides Championship title will go down to the wire, as the Bendigo Advertiser reports.

New South Wales, Victoria and ACT are locked on five wins each going into this morning’s final round of the Marj Morris Trophy at the Bendigo Bowls Club.

Defending champions New South Wales lead Victoria by 15 per cent on the ladder, but the Blues face a tough final round clash with third-placed the ACT.

Victoria will start warm favourites against fifth-placed Western Australia.

Victoria had to defeat the high-profile New South Wales side in yesterday morning’s fifth round to have any chance of winning the title.

The home state responded to the challenge by scoring an impressive 21-shot victory.

The rink skippered by Lisa Phillips led the charge, scoring a 31-12 win over world champion Karen Murphy.

New South Wales and Victoria then faced tough battles yesterday afternoon.

The Blues were pushed all the way by Queensland, before sneaking home by eight shots.

Victoria could only win one of the three rinks against South Australia, but Carla Odgers’ 26-9 win over Cherie Morgan was enough for the home state to clinch victory by five shots.

The ACT, the surprise packet of the tournament, enjoyed a big day – scoring a 67-35 win over the Northern Territory in the morning and a 68-47 victory over WA in the afternoon.

Tasmania scored its second win of the tournament when it defeated the Norther Territory yesterday afternoon.

The New South Wales rink led by Natasha Van Edlik is the best overall performed rink in the women’s section going into the final day.
