Youth a priority for the Albert

by Bowls Australia on January 8, 2019

Located approximately 160km north of Brisbane in Gympie, the Albert Bowls Club has invested heavily in its junior program.

Men’s President Bob Hill has led the initiative, actively promoting bowls to secondary schools in the area which has led to two schools becoming weekly visitors to the club for lessons.

Through this process, Bob has been able to form not only a junior squad at the club but also has facilitated a secondary schools Cup playoff for the district.

One talented young pair, who were newcomers to the sport, were also lucky enough to win through the district and compete at the state playoffs at Club Pine Rivers.

In conjunction with their Regional Bowls Manager Wade Mutzelburg, the Albert has also been able to secure its involvement in the district sports day organised by the Department of Sports & Recreation.

To run in September later this year, 38 students from all around the district will converge at the club for a day of structured coaching, followed by games at the end of the day to put their new found skills to the test.
