Australia’s vision-impaired bowlers have claimed a stellar five gold and one silver medals on the penultimate day of the International Blind Bowls Association’s World Championships in Cape Town, South Africa. Australia has secured a stunning five gold and one silver medals from the first seven disciplines of the International Blind Bowls Association’s World Championships in Cape Town, South Africa.

Joy Forster and director Bruce Jones can enjoy a moment of respite to cheer on their teammates on the final day, having finished their campaign with both gold medals from their two disciplines contested; the B2 women’s singles and mixed pairs.

Forster won four out of five matches in each discipline.

Wayne Thomson secured the B1 men’s singles gold medal, while international debutant Jenny Skinner finished valiantly in fourth-place in the B1 women’s singles.

Marian Morrison claimed the B3 women’s singles gold medal, having won all six preliminary matches leading into the final, which she drew against South Africa’s May Homer, but took the golden medallion on a count-back of margins.

Lynne Seymour will also return to Australian shores with a gold medal around her neck, from the B4 Singles, having won three out of four games, also claiming the coveted medal on a count-back after being defeated in the last game by Princess Schoeder.

Despite their success, the nation still trails South Africa on the Overall Champion Team Trophy race, by nine points.

The team will look to add more medals to the count in the remaining five disciplines tomorrow.

Bowls Australia congratulates the team on their achievements and wish them well for their remaining contests.
