2022 Trans Tasman preview

by Val Febbo on June 3, 2022

After almost two and a half years between events, Australia and New Zealand will finally lock horns once again, this time at Queensland’s Club Tamborine for the 2022 Trans Tasman.

Following the Jackaroos‘ and Blackjacks‘ 2022 Commonwealth Games squad announcements, the selected teams will battle on greens with speeds aimed to replicate those at Royal Leamington Spa in late July.

Reigning Commonwealth champion Aaron Wilson will line up against 2016 World Champion Shannon McIlroy in the men’s singles, while newly crowned Bowls Premier League winner Ellen Ryan will face off against Katelyn Inch in the women’s singles discipline.

Ryan will team up with Kristina Krstic in the women’s pairs to play against Selina Goddard and Inch, while Wilson will pair with Corey Wedlock as they take on Tony Grantham and McIlroy.

In the triples, the trio of Ryan’s fellow BPL15 champion Barrie Lester, Carl Healey and Ben Twist will take to the green against Mike Galloway, Andrew Kelly and Ali Forsyth, while former Commonwealth gold medallists Lynsey Clarke, Rebecca Van Asch and Natasha Van Eldik will play Nicole Toomey, Tayla Bruce and Val Smith in the women’s event.

The fours will see Clarke, Krstic, Van Asch and Van Eldik up against Toomey, Goddard, Bruce and Smith, while Lester, Healey, Wedlock and Twist will do battle with Grantham, Galloway, Kelly and Forsyth.

In the Para events, Cheryl Lindfield and Serena Bonnell will lead the charge in the women’s pairs against Lynda Bennett and Pam Walker, while Damien Delgado and Chris Flavel will face off against Graham Skellern and Mark Noble in the men’s event.

Helen Boardman and Jake Fehlberg will take to the green in the vision-impaired pairs match-up against Gerald Brouwers and Sue Curran.

The 2022 Trans Tasman will be held from June 4-6, 2022, at Club Tamborine in Queensland. Rinkside Live coverage will be available on BA’s Facebook page from 9am AEST on Saturday and Sunday, and 8.30am on Monday.
