National Selection Panel appointed through to 2027

Bowls Australia’s (BA) National Selection Panel will remain unchanged for the next three years as the nation prepares to tackle its next batch of major events.

BA’s Board resolved the appointment of the five incumbent candidates that have already performed their duties in exemplary fashion.

The current panel has enjoyed the ultimate success in identifying the players and compositions for the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and the 2023 World Bowls Championships on the Gold Coast, where the Right at Home Jackaroos stood tall to top both respective medal tallies.

Former coach Steve Glasson OAM will once again serve as the Chair of Selectors, with current National Coach Gary Willis afforded automatic inclusion on the panel by virtue of his role.

National Assistant Coach Karen Murphy AM will maintain her role, as will long-time selectors in Dave Stockham and Therese Hastings.

Willis said he was excited for the role the panel will  play in shaping the next three years of history for the Jackaroos.

“This selection panel has played an integral role in the progress of the Jackaroos over the past few years, from Birmingham through to the Gold Coast,” he said.

“Australia topped the medal tally in both tournaments and it is a testament to not just the players but the panel itself for playing an important part; it’s a difficult and contentious role but one that these individuals do superbly.

“Therese, Karen, Dave, and Steve have played an integral role in the success of the Jackaroos, and our program, for over ten years and to know that we will have such expertise, passionate, knowledgeable, genuinely great people involved in one of the toughest jobs we have is extremely reassuring.

“Each member brings an absolute wealth of knowledge and experience, and has the utmost respect for the role and I am looking forward to the continuance of identifying the best and brightest bowls talent to progress the nation’s high performance program.”

The quintet will serve in their positions until the conclusion of the 2027 World Bowls Championships.
