2023 World Bowls Indoor Championships: Day Two & Three wrap

by Val Febbo on May 9, 2023

It was yet another successful pair of days for Right at Home Jackaroos Aron Sherriff and Kelsey Cottrell at the 2023 World Bowls Indoor Championships with the pair still yet to suffer a defeat.

Following the duo’s mixed pairs 12-1 4-4 victory against Jersey’s Malcolm de Sousa and Megan Kivlin, Sherriff enjoyed a 15-2 15-2 win over the USA’s Scottie Marzonie in his solitary men’s singles matchup of the day.

Sherriff returned to the green on Tuesday morning to face Namibia’s Carel Olivier, who forced the Australian to come up with his best bowls in the opening set as he clinched it 7-5.

The shots came in thick and fast in the second as the 37-year-old conquered the set 13-0 to place himself in first place in his section with a pair of matches to come.

Meanwhile, Cottrell opened her singles account with a comprehensive 12-1 7-3 win over Tonga’s Milika Nathan before her tantalising second contest against Norfolk Island’s Shae Wilson.

In a rematch of the recent Multi Nations semifinal, the pair picked up where they left off in a closely fought opening stanza, which Cottrell would secure 7-6.

It was more of the same in the second, but it was Wilson who gained the early ascendancy to open up a 3-2 lead with just two to play.

Cottrell however managed to find a way through, securing three shots from the concluding ends to put a stranglehold on her section with two matches to come.
